You open your build planner, stare at a list of uniques, blessings, idols, exalteds, and legendaries, and the big question hits: where do I even start? Target farming in Last Epoch isn't about brute force grinding one thing endlessly-it's about understanding the game's systems and using them together to steadily move your character from "barely functional" to Last Epoch gold fully optimized.

Start With Your Weakest Gear Piece

The foundation of efficient farming is constant evaluation. Every time you upgrade an item, reassess your character and identify the next weakest link. Are you dying too often? Then, defensive gaps like missing hybrid health, crit avoidance, or resistances should be your focus. Is your damage falling off? You may be missing a key unique, a class-specific affix, or a legendary interaction that your build relies on.

Always farm with intent. Pick one or two specific upgrades to actively chase while letting everything else drop naturally in the background. Many important items-like class-specific shards or ideal idols-are better obtained passively while you pursue something more deterministic.

Active vs Passive Farming Matters

One of the biggest mistakes players make is trying to force RNG-heavy drops. Some things in Last Epoch simply aren't meant to be hard-targeted. Class-specific affixes, idol stat combinations, and certain shards fall into this category. You can chase them directly, but doing so often leads to burnout.

However, there's an important tradeoff. Choosing drop rate blessings often means giving up powerful raw stats found on the right side, such as crit avoidance, crit multiplier, or defensive bonuses. While mathematically increasing drop chance may sound optimal, it can slow your character's immediate power growth.

Before chasing drop rate blessings, ask yourself: Would raw stats help me farm faster right now? Often, the answer is yes.

Farming Unique and Set Items Efficiently

Target farming uniques starts with information. Use a database or planner to determine where an item comes from. Some uniques drop from specific bosses, others from timeline-specific echo rewards, and some can be rolled using the Rune of Ascendance.

If a unique is tied to a timeline, focus on that timeline's unique/set reward echoes. If it's a boss drop, farm that boss-preferably on empowered difficulty. Rune of Ascendance adds another layer, allowing you to convert base items into uniques with known odds, as long as the item isn't boss-exclusive.

Your item faction also matters. Merchant's Guild players can bypass much of the grind by buying items directly from the Bazaar. Circle of Fortune players rely on prophecies, which can be tuned to reward specific item types, such as unique gloves or weapons.

Set items follow nearly the same rules as uniques, with the added twist that they can now be shattered for Last Epoch gold for sale shards and reapplied through crafting, opening new build possibilities.
